LAMB the druggist in Fossil, is one of the earliest pioneers of the country now embraced in Wheeler county. He is at the head of a good business and is known as a representative citizen, well to do and progressive. His birth occurred in Wayne county, Indiana, on December 16, 1854, and his parents are Martin and Sarah (Starbuck) Lamb. The father was born in Wayne county, Indiana, on August 18, 1818, and died in 1899. The mother was also born in that county, on October 13, 1823, and died June 23, 1863. Our subject received his early education in the public schools of his native county, then matriculated in the college at Hillsdale, Michigan. After completing his course he taught school in his home county for a year, then went to Kansas, where he taught for two years. After that he read medicine with Dr. W. W. Woods of Springdale, Kansas. It was 1880 that he came to this country and entered the employ of I. H. Parsons on the John Day river. Following this he came to Fossil and taught school, then bought the stage line from Fossil to Heppner, continuing the same largely until 1882. Then he began work for George Thompson, a general merchant in this place, and continued in his employ until Mr. Thompson sold out. Then he again taught school in Fossil and in June, 1884, he engaged in the drug business in which he still continues. His is the only drug store in the town and he has given his attention to the building up of the business in all the intervening years. In addition to this property Mr. Lamb has twelve hundred acres of land adjoining the town on the south, which is utilized for a stock farm. He also owns about one hundred head of cattle. He has been prospered splendidly since coming here and is one of the well-to-do men of the county. On January 29, 1883, Mr. Lamb married Anna Rose, who was born in California on December 25, 1863. Her father, Thomas Rose, was born in England on October, 1822. Two children are the fruit of this union, Abie, aged eighteen and Howard, twelve years old. Mr. Lamb is a charter member of the I. 0. 0. F. and the A. F. & A. M. of this place and also belongs to the K. P. Politically he is a strong republican, and for three terms has been county treasurer. His career has been frought with wisdom, thrift and uprightness and he has well earned the esteem and confidence of the people, which is generously bestowed. ******************* Submitted to the Oregon Bios.
