AMOS DAMON HYLAND Was born in Plainfield, Will county, Illinois, February 11, 1837, and there resided until the spring of 1852, at which time he accompanied his father and two brothers across the plains to Oregon, where they arrived in November of the same year. Mr. Hyland first was variously employed in day's labor; in 1853, however, he came to Lane county and located at Junction City, where he engaged in farming until the spring of 1874, when selling out he purchased his present stock farm of two thousand four hundred and fifty acres. and his residence, of which and it surroundings, an excellent view appears in this work, being situated at the junction of the Oregon Central Military road and that leading from Springfield, where he is engaged in general farming, stock-raising and hop-growing, besides being engaged in mercantile pursuits. He was married at Junction City in 1858 to Miss Rachel A. Crow, by which union they have ten surviving children, viz: Abbey A. (now Mrs. Albert E.
