Born in Lewis County, West Virginia, April 12, 1822; came overland to Oregon, and in the year following his arrival, settled in Linn County, on the north side of Peterson's Butte, so named for his family. He was a descendant of John Paul Jones, of Revolutionary fame. Our subject is coroner of Linn County, his name having been placed on both the Republican and Democratic tickets.
