KEENEY Was born in La Fayette county, Missouri, October 7, 1821, but when an infant was taken to Ray county, in the same state, by his parents. At the age of twenty-one years he moved to the southern part of Missouri, and a twelve-month after proceeded to Holt county, purchased a farm and engaged in agricultural pursuits. In 1850, he crossed the plains to California, but eighteen months thereafter returned to Missouri taking up residence there until May, 1857. At this time, with his wife and four children, he once more essayed the journey across the plains, but on this occasion to Oregon, where he arrived October 5, 1857. Having made the trip by way of California he there disposed of his teams, took passage by sea to Portland, where he remained but a short time, and then came direct to Lane county, purchased a farm comprising six hundred and forty acres, the Milton Riggs donation claim, to which he has since added two hundred and two acres, making his estate a compact tract of eight hundred and forty-two acres. Mr. Keeney's residence, a good view of which will be found in this volume, is situated about half a mile east from Goshen on the Central Military road, where he is engaged in general farming and stock-raising. Married in the first instance in Clinton, Henry county, Missouri, Miss Elizabeth Mulholland, by which union they had one child now deceased. He espoused, secondly, Mr. Cooper, in Atchison county, Missouri, and had four children, three of whom survive, viz: James M., William D., and John B. Thirdly he took unto himself as wife Mrs. A. J.
