Clark, Robert Carlton, Ph.D. "History of the Willamette Valley Oregon." Vol. 3. Chicago: Chapman Publishing Company, 1927. p. 228. ARTHUR RISE Arthur Rise, one of the aggressive young business men to whom Salem looks for its future growth and development, was born in Forest City, Iowa, in 1902, and was a boy of eight years when his parents, Jacob A. and Sarah (Runberg) Rise, settled in Salem. His father purchased the Lamport harness shop and added a shoe department. He prospered in the undertaking and remained active in the business until his death, which occurred in 1925. He is survived by the mother, who still makes her home in the Capital city. The public schools of Salem afforded Arthur Rise his educational privileges and his training along commercial lines was received in his father's establishment. He diligently applied himself to his tasks and his keen mind enabled him to readily assimilate the details of the business, of which he is now the manager. He gives to it his undivided attention and has stimulated the growth of the enterprise by well matured plans and systematic efforts. He is allied with the republican party and his fraternal affiliations are with the Masons and the Elks. Although young in years, he has thoroughly demonstrated his business capacity and his stability of character and winning personality have drawn to him a large number of sincere friends. ******************* Submitted to the Oregon Bios.
