B. S. HYLAND
     The subject of this sketch, a view of whose residence will be found in
these pages, was born in New Hampton, Belknap county, New Hampshire, and arrived
in Oregon in 1852.  In July, 1853, he took up his residence in Lane county where
he has since resided, being among the best of the practical farmers of the
Willamette valley.  In September, 1864, he married Delia J. Tyler, and has had a
family of seven children, viz:  Sylvia M. (deceased), Frank E., Fred (deceased),
Elizabeth J., Eva, William (deceased), May.  By a life of uprightness and
industry, Mr. Hyland has surrounded himself with a full degree of comfort for
his declining years.
