CHARLES APPLEGATE

     Born in Henry County, Kentucky, January 24, 1806; removed to St. Louis,
Missouri, in 1820.  Married in 1829 to Miss Melinda Miller.  Set out with his
brothers, Jesse and Lindsay, for Oregon in the memorable year 1843.  Settled in
Polk County, and remained there until 1860, when he removed to Yoncalla, Douglas
County, and resided there until his death, August 9, 1879.
