"An Illustrated history of Baker, Grant, Malheur and Harney Counties : with a brief outline of the early history of the state of Oregon." Chicago?: Western Historical Pub. Co., 1902. Page 305. Baker County. CONRAD J. LANG The thrifty and progressive farmer and stock-raiser whose career it is now our task to present in epitome, was born near Sandy Hill, Steuben county, New York, on the twenty-fifth of January, 1860. When four years old he was taken by his parents to the vicinity of Appleton, Wisconsin, and there he took his initial steps in the pursuit of knowledge. In 1869, the family removed to Crawford county, Kansas, but after a residence of seventeen years duration there, the father died and the mother and her children returned to New York, where she also departed this life. In 1882 our subject emigrated to Baker county, Oregon, and he has resided within its limits ever since, though his home has been located in various places at different times. In 1890 he settled upon a tract of land about three miles northeast of Weatherby, on Sisley creek, where he has ever since resided, and where he now has a very comfortable home, and a farm well improved and equipped with all necessary building, machinery, etc. His premises bear eloquent testimony to his thrift and industry. On February 15, 1881, in Osage Mission, Kansas, Mr. Lang married Miss Sarah M., daughter of John and Susana (Sideling) Leibold, and to them have been born eight children: Joseph V., Edward W., Francis J., deceased, Regina, Mary R., Conrad M., Lewis G. and Arthur, all at home. Fraternally, Mr. Lang is affiliated with the A.O.U.W., of Baker City. ******************* Submitted to the Oregon Bios. Project in September 2005 by Diana Smith.
