In 1849 went to farming, three miles from Portland, and remained there until 1861; then went to Polk County and settled upon a farm of one hundred and fifty acres, near Salem. Mr. Prettyman was married in 1850, to Miss Sarah A. Riggs, and they have two children. He has distinguished himself in agricultural pursuits, and at the Centennial Exposition, in Philadelphia, took prizes for his fine wheat exhibits. His residence now is Salem. Dr. Prettyman, father of the gentleman spoken of, was a physician of eminence in Oregon, and did much to develop the State's resources. ******************* Submitted to the Oregon Bios.
