One of the well known physicians of the Willamette Valley is Dr. Dick R. Ross, of Salem, who was born in Marion county, Oregon, on the 11th of July, 1885, and is a son of Enoch D. and Charlotte (Porter) Ross, mentioned in the sketch of his brother, Custer E. Ross, on other pages of this work. Dick R. Ross completed the work of the public and high schools, and then matriculated in the medical school of Willamette University, being graduated with the degree of Doctor of Medicine in 1913. He served as interne at the State Hospital, and remained with that institution as house physician until 1923, when he came to Salem and engaged in the private practice of his profession, in which he has gained an enviable reputation. He specializes in surgery, in which he has proven skillful and trustworthy, and he was one of the organizers of the Salem Clinic, one of the most notable medical institutions of this section of the state. In 1915 Dr. Ross was united in marriage to Miss Mary LaRue, who was born and reared in Salem. The Doctor is a veteran of the World war, having enlisted September 8, 1917, in the Medical Corps of the United States Army. On July 1, 1918, he was sent overseas with the Ninety-first Division, and remained in the service until April 3, 1919, when he was honorably discharged, and at once resumed his professional work at the State Hospital. Dr. Ross is a member of the Marion County Medical Society, the Oregon State Medical Society and the American Medical Association. He belongs to the Sons of the American Revolution and the American Legion. He 'is widely recognized as a splendid citizen, of lofty character, sturdy integrity and sincere devotion to his life work, while his personal qualities have commended him to the respect and admiration of all who have been associated with him. ******************* Submitted to the Oregon Bios.
