Grabenhorst, a business man of enterprise and ability, is a member of one of the well known real estate firms of Salem and also figures prominently in civic affairs. He was born December 14, 1894, in Dayton, Iowa, and his parents, William H. and Eva (Haight) Grabenhorst, migrated to Oregon when he was a boy of eight, reaching Salem on June 1, 1902. For eight years his father followed the occupation of farming in Marion county and in 1910 located in Salem. He joined his son, George H. Grabenhorst, in the real estate business and the partnership was terminated by the death of William H. Grabenhorst in 1923. In the acquirement of an education Eugene B. Grabenhorst attended the public schools of Marion county and the Capital City Business College. He also studied civil engineering and for seven years followed that profession. In 1918 he enlisted in the United States Army and was assigned to duty with the Twenty-second Engineers. He was ordered to the front and remained abroad for nine months. After his honorable discharge he returned to Salem and since July 7, 1919, has been one of the owners of the business of the. W. H. Grabenhorst Company, of which his brother, George H., is the senior partner. They have laid out a number of attractive subdivisions, doing much to improve and beautify the city and its environs, and their business has assumed large proportions, for the policy followed by the firm is one which commends itself to public confidence and support. On July 16, 1919, Eugene B. Grabenhorst was united in marriage to Miss Helen M. Harris, a daughter of W. H. Harris, an agriculturist, who came to Salem in 1912. To Mr. and Mrs. Grabenhorst has been born a daughter, Anna Mae. Mr. Grabenhorst has invested a portion of his capital in farm lands and is fully cognizant of the advantages and attractions of this favored region. He is an adherent of the republican party and has served on the city council since January, 1925. He acts as chairman of the sewer committee and exerts his influence to secure for the municipality those improvements which will enhance its desirability as a place of residence. He belongs to the Chamber of Commerce and is a past director of the Lions Club. He is also a member of the Salem Rod & Gun Club, the American Legion and the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks. Mr. Grabenhorst typifies the progressive spirit of the west and is a young man of fine character, esteemed and respected by all with whom he has been brought in contact. ******************* Submitted to the Oregon Bios.
