Clark, Robert Carlton, Ph.D. "History of the Willamette Valley Oregon." Vol. 2. Chicago: Chapman Publishing Company, 1927. p. 108. EDWARD S. DONNELLY, M. D. Dr. Edward S. Donnelly is accorded a place of prominence in medical circles of Woodburn and possesses those qualities through which success comes as a natural sequence. He was born January 10, 1885, in Friend, Nebraska, and is a son of Patrick and Margaret Donnelly, pioneers of that state. For many years his father engaged in farming and is now living retired in Hastings, Nebraska. Dr. Donnelly was reared in his native state and received his higher education at Omaha, Nebraska, in the Creighton Medical College, from which he was graduated with the class of 1912. He served as an interne at St. Vincent's Hospital in Portland, Oregon, and afterward followed his profession in various parts of the state. In 1923 he came to Woodburn and in the intervening period has successfully treated diseases of the nose and throat, also enjoying a large general practice. In 1916 Dr. Donnelly married Miss Marie May, of Mount Angel, Oregon, a daughter of George and Mary May, Minnesota pioneers. Dr. and Mrs. Donnelly have a family of five children: Joseph Emmett, Claudia, Kathleen, Cornelius and Thomas. In politics Dr. Donnelly is a republican and his religious views are in accord with the doctrines of the Roman Catholic church. He is affiliated with the Knights of Columbus and his professional connections are with the Marion County and Oregon State Medical Societies. An earnest student, he keeps in close touch with the achievements of science in his chosen field of endeavor, and his personality is one that inspires confidence and respect. ******************* Submitted to the Oregon Bios.
