Clark, Robert Carlton, Ph.D. "History of the Willamette Valley Oregon." Vol. 2. Chicago: Chapman Publishing Company, 1927. p. 501. EUGENE W. GOFF Eugene W. Goff, the efficient and capable superintendent of the McKenzie fish hatchery, at Leaburg, Lane county, has had long and intensive experience in the hatching and care of fish and is in charge of one of the most important hatcheries in the state, which he is operating in an eminently satisfactory manner. He was born in Graham county, Kansas, on the 26th of October, 1888, and is a son of Eugene Goff, who died in that state. He attended the public schools of Kansas and in 1897 came with his widowed mother to Oregon. They located first in the eastern part of the state, where they lived until 1900, when they came to the Willamette Valley, taking up a homestead near Walterville. Mr. Goff completed his education in the public school at that place and then went to work in the lumber camps. In 1914 he became a helper in a fish hatchery under M. L. Rickman, the present state superintendent of hatcheries, and worked in that capacity for several years. He was then appointed superintendent of the Santiam river hatchery, from which he was later transferred to the Klamath hatchery. In 1921 he was made superintendent of the McKenzie hatchery, where he is still serving. This hatchery is located on state land, two miles below Vida, and is under the control of the State Game Commission. Mr. Goff employs assistants the year round and has a larger force during the spawning season. There are here hatched during the season two million rainbow trout, one million brook trout and a half million steelhead trout, for which large holding and feeding ponds are provided. In January, 1909, Mr. Goff was united in marriage to Miss Ada Rennie, a daughter of William Rennie, of Thurston, Oregon, and they are the parents of two children: Ennis, born April 2, 1910; and William Howard, born January 3, 1912, both of whom are attending the public school in Vida. Mr. Goff is a member of Eugene Lodge, No. 357, B. P. 0. E., and among those who know him he is held in the highest regard because of his ability and fine personal qualities. ******************* Submitted to the Oregon Bios.
