Lockley, Fred. "History of the Columbia River Valley, From The Dalles to the Sea." Vol. 3. S. J. Clarke Publishing Co., 1928. p. 236. GODFREY C. BLOHM Godfrey C. Blohm, cashier of the West Coast National Bank of Portland, has had long experience in banking and has been a strong factor in the success which has marked the history of the institution with which he is now officially identified. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, June 12, 1888, he is the son of Frederick W. and Christina, who settled in that city in an early day. His father was a minister of the Presbyterian church, and, in September, 1901, the family came to Portland, the father accepting the pastorate of the Presbyterian church at Mt. Tabor, and both parents died at that place. Mr. Blohm spent his boyhood days on a farm and received his early education in the public schools. When thirteen years old he accompanied his parents on their removal to Portland and, after completing his public school course, attended the Portland Business College. He worked for a short time for the Fisher Music Company, and later was employed at farm work. In 1904 he went to Spokane, Washington, where he was employed as a collector for about two years, after which he returned to Portland and went to work for Pearson & Page, produce dealers. In September, 1906, Mr. Blohm entered the Ladd & Tilton Bank as a messenger and, because of his earnest and intelligent attention to duty, was successively promoted through various positions, at length becoming assistant cashier. In 1923 he resigned to become cashier of the newly organized West Coast National Bank, in which capacity he has served to the present time. He is also secretary of the Western Securities Company. He is a man of mature and dependable judgment and keen discrimination and holds the unqualified confidence and respect of all who know him. In 1920 Mr. Blohm was united in marriage to Miss Margaret Walton, of Portland, and they are the parents of two children, Richard Walton, now aged five and a half years, and Philip Godfrey, aged two and a half years. Mr. Blohm gives his political support to the republican party and has shown a helpful interest in public affairs, particularly such as pertain to the welfare and prosperity of his community. He is a member of Harmony Lodge, No. 12, A. P. & A. M.; Portland Consistory, A. A. S. R.; Al Kader Temple, A. A. 0. N. M. S.; the Multnomah Athletic Club, the Multnomah Golf Club, the Lions Club, of which he is treasurer, and the Chamber of Commerce, and is an honorary member of the Irvington Club. He is president of the Portland Association of Credit Men, and is president of its adjusting bureau. He belongs to the American Institute of banking, is a director of the Oregon Building Congress and belongs to the Mazamas. A lover of outdoor life, he is particularly fond of mountain climbing, having ascended Mr. 'Hood, Mt. Shasta and other lofty peaks of this section of the country. Because of his earnest life, his fidelity to duty and his uniform courtesy and friendliness, he has gained a strong hold on the esteem of his fellowmen and is regarded as one of Portland's worthy and public-spirited citizens. ******************* Submitted to the Oregon Bios.
