BARBER Born in Bedford County, Virginia, February 14, 1817; came to Oregon in 1845, and remained in Oregon City until the following year, when he moved to what is now Linn County. The gold excitement in California called him to that State in 1848; he mined three months with great success, on the American River. Returned to Oregon in 1849; in 1851 was elected county judge of Linn County, and served one term; lived in Napa County, California, in the year 1868, but again returned to Oregon, and is now a resident of Forest Grove, Washington County. The judge has been married twice; first, in 1843, to Miss Elizabeth J. Knox, who died in 1874; and in 1875, to Miss Minnie Krauss.
