"Illustrated History of Lane County, Oregon." Portland, Oregon: A. G. Walling, publisher, 1884. pg. 492. GEORGE HUMPHREY (Deceased) This distinguished citizen of Lane county died December 19, 1883. He was born April 1, 1807. While a young man he resided in the State of New York and Canada, in the latter of which he married January 9, 1835, Miss Cynthia A. Bristol. He subsequently emigrated to Illinois and Iowa, in the latter of which he engaged in mercantile and agricultural pursuits, transacting a large financial business, until 1853, in which year he came to Oregon, settled in Lane county, and in a few years established a prosperous business in Eugene City. Upon his death he devised his property to his six sons and two daughters, names respectively: Albert, James, Thomas, William, Norris, H. Clay, Emily (now Mrs. A. G. Hovey), Caroline (now Mrs. B. H.
