OZMENT Was born in Guilford county, North Carolina, May, 1834, and there resided until the year 1852 when he crossed the plains with ox teams for Oregon. Settling in Lane county he took up a donation claim located twenty-two miles southwest from Eugene City, in the Siuslaw valley, but in 1865 he moved to Umpqua and there engaged in stock-raising for five years. In 1868 Mr. Ozment revisited his native state, returning in the following year and being eight months on the journey. He now resides eighteen miles southwest from Eugene City where he has about two thousand acres of land, twelve hundred sheep and one hundred and fifty acres in grain.
