Clark, Robert Carlton, Ph.D. "History of the Willamette Valley Oregon." Vol. 3. Chicago: Chapman Publishing Company, 1927. p. 165. HARRY CULVER One of the wide-awake and enterprising business men of Cottage Grove is Harry Culver, who for fifteen years has been engaged in the meat business, in which he is meeting with success, having by his courtesy and satisfactory service, built up a large patronage. A native of England, his birth occurred on the 12th day of June. 1887, and he is a son of John and Elizabeth Culver. The family came to this country in 1905, locating in Cottage Grove, where the parents lived for a time, but are now residents of Portland. Harry Culver received a good education in the public schools of his native land and learned the trade of a meat cutter. On coming to Cottage Grove he followed that line of work until 1912, when he bought the meat market of D. K. Gover, which he has conducted to the present time, being alone in the business until 1923, when he admitted Fred Anderson to a partnership. They carry a large line of fresh and smoked meats, have a well arranged market, the cleanliness of which is a prominent feature, and they cater to the tastes and wants of all who enter their store. In 1910 Mr. Culver was united in marriage to Miss Lillie Anderson, of Cottage Grove, and they are the parents of five children, Lilly, Henry, Roberta, Viola and Clifford. Mr. Culver gives his political support to the republican party and has shown a good citizen's interest in everything pertaining to the welfare and prosperity of his community. In the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, he has taken the degrees of lodge and encampment and of the Daughters of Rebekah. He is also a member of the Woodmen of the World and belongs to the Chamber of Commerce. In all relations of life he has been true to every obligation and duty and his record since becoming a resident of Cottage Grove has gained for him a high place in the estimation of those with whom he has come in contact. ******************* Submitted to the Oregon Bios.
