"Illustrated History of Lane County, Oregon." Portland, Oregon: A. G. Walling, publisher, 1884. pg. 485. JOHN A. LAWRENCE In the subject of this sketch we have a descendant of one of the best known families of Lane and Benton counties, and a young man not yet thirty-five years of age who through his own industry has secured to himself a competency for his declining years. Mr. Lawrence is a native of Lee county, Iowa, born February 21, 1851, and is the son of John W. and Hester (Miller) Lawrence. When John A. was but one year of age, in the spring of 1852, his parents crossed the plains to Oregon. Arriving in Benton county in the fall of that year, locating near the present town of Monroe. There our subject resided with his parents until 1879, when he purchased his present valuable farm of three hundred and five acres situated two miles north of Junction City, Lane county, an excellent view of which appears elsewhere in this volume. June 23, 1872, Mr. Lawrence married Miss S. E. Swartz, a native of Oregon and a lady that has since ably assisted him in building up a pleasant home. ******************* Submitted to the Oregon Bios.
