CHURCH Was born in Genessee county, New York, June 22, 1834, but was educated in Seneca county, Ohio. In 1852 he crossed the plains to California, but returned to the Eastern States after a residence of six years. He then enlisted in the Second Regiment, Iowa Cavalry, and during his four years service was mostly orderly sergeant of Co. C., being promoted afterwards to a second lieutenancy, but for which he did not receive his commission. After a short stay in Iowa, he removed to Lacon county, Missouri, and there resided until 1872, when he came to Oregon, and to Lane county, embarking in the hardware business in Eugene City.
