Parsons, Col. William and Shiach, W. S. "An Illustrated History of Umatilla County and of Morrow County." Spokane, WA: W. H. Lever, 1902. p. 444. J. F. KILLGORE As a moving spirit in financial enterprises, a leading agriculturist and a prominent citizen the man of whom we now speak has distinguished himself, in every line, as well as in several other large enterprises, he has manifested that aggressive spirit, always governed by a keen foresight, masterful wisdom and tireless energy which are characteristic of him. He is the son of Jesse and Milla (Fenell) Killgore, being born in Adair county, Missouri, on September 14, 1849, where he was educated in the common schools, which were held in those days in log school houses furnished with puncheon floors and benches. In 1875 the family moved to Washington county, this state, remaining there for one year and then came to this county, settling where he now lives, three and one-fourth miles north from Weston. His father died after coming here, but his mother is still living in his home, being ninety-eight years of age. Mr. Killgore was married on October 10, 1869, in Missouri, to Miss Mary J. Line, daughter of Welcome H. and Elende Line. To them have been born the following children: Iva, wife of James Ritchey, of Weston ; William P., married to Gracie English and living in Nez Perce county, Idaho; J. R., married to Elsie M. Hopson and cashier in the bank at Weston; Ida M., deceased; Ellen, wife of E. E. Lowery, of Weston; Jessie J., deceased; John H. Mr. Killgore owns a fine estate of about six hundred acres of fertile wheat land, which is kept in a high state of cultivation; he also owns and operates a large steam threshing outfit, with all modern improvements, and also a large part of the stock of the Farmers' Bank in Weston, of which institution he is director. His residence is on the estate, which is in every respect a model rural home place, where thrift and industry and care mark everything pertaining thereto. He is affiliated with the I. O. O. F. and A.O.U.W., both at Weston. Mr. Killgore is one of the old pioneers who has wrought in the heat and burden of the day, always maintaining sound principles, being a man with the courage of his convictions, ever ready to lend a helping hand to the cause of right and for the advancement and betterment of his county. Being now at the meridian of life, he has the comfort of a retrospective view of well-spent days and the perfect consummation of laudable enterprises and worthy achievements.
