JOEL WARE For fourteen years Mr. Ware has held the office of County Clerk of Lane county, and was engaged with H. R. Kincaid and William Thompson in establishing "The Oregon State Journal" on March 12, 1864. He sold his interest to Mr. Kincaid on February 14, 1865, when he was employed as chief clerk in the surveyor-general's office in Eugene City, and in 1870 was elected County Clerk and has been his own successor to this date, 1884. He was born in Columbia county, Ohio, February 19, 1832, where he was raised and educated. He crossed the plains, driving an ox team to California, where he arrived in August, 1852. He settled in Sacramento and followed the printing business until coming to Oregon in 1857 and locating in Portland, then took a residence in Eugene City, in March, 1858, where he worked on the first newspaper in the place.
