Clark, Robert Carlton, Ph.D. "History of the Willamette Valley Oregon." Vol. 3. Chicago: Chapman Publishing Company, 1927. p. 178. KENNEL-ELLIS STUDIO In the field of portraiture, the Kennel-Ellis Studio at Eugene has gained an enviable reputation and is regarded as one of the most reliable concerns in that line in the lower Willamette Valley. Careful and painstaking work, characterized by a high quality of artistic finish, has brought its reward in the large and representative patronage which the studio enjoys. E. W. Ellis, the active manager of this studio, was born in Pullman, Washington, on the 20th of March, 1891, and is a son of S. A. and Sophronia (Davis) Ellis. The father is a native of Tennessee and came to the Pacific coast about 1885, locating in Washington, where he engaged in the hotel business. Later he turned his attention to farming but has now retired from active labor and is living in Colfax, Washington. The mother was born in Oregon and is a daughter of William Davis, an early pioneer, his father having come to McMinnville, Oregon, in 1842. In 1923 E. W. Ellis formed a partnership with E. E. Kennel and opened the Kennel-Ellis studio in Eugene. In 1925 they also established a studio at Salem, Oregon, where Mr. Kennel has charge. Both establishments have proved very successful and the firm is enjoying a well merited prosperity. ******************* Submitted to the Oregon Bios. Project in June 2016 by Diana Smith.
