Reynolds, state senator, is the owner of a valuable ranch in Marion county and has materially furthered Oregon's progress along horticultural lines. He was born December 27, 1872, in Beverly, Washington county, Ohio, and his parents, Dr. John and Sarah Ann (Truesdell) Reynolds, were natives of Pennsylvania and Ohio respectively. The father received the M. D. degree from the University of Cincinnati and on coming to Oregon in 1874 opened an office in Salem, where his medical knowledge and skill brought him a large practice. He was devoted to his patients, who regarded him as friend and counselor as well as a physician, and he was known and honored throughout the county. He retired from professional work in 1913 but continued a resident of Salem until his death, which occurred June 22, 1919. The mother passed away in April, 1922. After the completion of his high school course Lloyd T. Reynolds matriculated in Willamette University, from which he was graduated in 1894 with the degree of A. B. For a number of years he operated his father's farm and in 1900 bought a tract of forty acres. Since 1925 he has been the owner of the homestead, which is situated three miles from Salem, and he now has seventy-five acres of fertile land. He raises pears, apples, prunes and cherries and is a scientific orchardist. Through intensive study and years of practical experience he has acquired a detailed knowledge of the fruit industry and receives good returns from his well directed labors. He enjoys his work and is constantly improving his ranch, which is one of the most desirable in the district. In 1896, Mr. Reynolds married Miss Edith Frizzell, who was born in Polk county Oregon, and passed away in 1917. Her parents, J. P. and Louisa (Baskett) Frizzell, were prosperous farmers and members of pioneer families of Oregon. Mr. Reynolds' second union was with Miss Ruth Saucy, a native of Switzerland and a daughter of Charles D. Saucy, a well known agriculture of Marion county. They have one child, John Truesdell, who is four years of age. During the World war Mr. Reynolds aided the Red Cross Society and also acted as fruit inspector for the government. In 1926 he was chosen president of the Oregon Horticultural Society and on matters pertaining to this branch of agricultural science he is regarded as an authority. He was a member of the state board of horticulture for six years and was its treasurer for tour years He is an adherent of the republican party and from 1907 until 1913 represented his district in the lower house of the Oregon assembly. He was again elected in 1923 and served until the close of the session of 1925 and has since been a member of the State senate He has been largely instrumental in securing the passage of horticultural laws of benefit to Oregon farmers and also legislation pertaining to taxation and assessments, exhibiting a zealous and watchful regard of public rights. Along fraternal lines Mr. Reynolds is connected with the United Artisans and the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks. He is always in the vanguard .of movements looking toward the accomplishment of real and practical good and displays rare qualities as a public servant. ******************* Submitted to the Oregon Bios.
