Clark, Robert Carlton, Ph.D. "History of the Willamette Valley Oregon." Vol. 3. Chicago: Chapman Publishing Company, 1927. p. 263. LLOYD W. SHISLER One of the most progressive grocery stores in Harrisburg is that owned by Lloyd W. Shisler, who lias shown himself a man of energetic methods and sound business judgment and is enjoying a well deserved measure of prosperity. A native of Missouri, he was born on the 6th of July, 1891, and is a son of Richard C. and Minerva (Sharer) Shisler. The father brought the family to Harrisburg in 1903 and for six years was engaged in the hotel business. Later he operated a hardware store, but afterwards established a grocery store, in which he was successful, and ran the business until 1921, when he sold it to his sons and is now retired from active affairs. The mother died in October, 1925. Lloyd W. Shisler attended the public schools and then entered Willamette University, from which lie was graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Arts, in 1916. He engaged in teaching school, which profession he followed until 1918, when he enlisted in the ordnance department of the United States Army, with which he served until the close of the war, spending eight months of that time in France. On returning home he went into his father's store and in 1921 he and his brother, Ralph E., bought the business, which they conducted together until 1924, when Mr. Shisler bought his brother's interest and is now the sole owner. He carries a large and well selected line of staple and fancy groceries and his careful and painstaking attention to the wants of his patrons and his square dealing have gained for him a large trade and the good will of all who patronize him. In 1917 Mr. Shisler was united in marriage to Miss Gertrude Cunningham, of Salem, Oregon, and they are the parents of two children, Barbara, aged six years, and Frances, aged three. Mr. Shisler is a member and a past master of Thurston Lodge, No. 28, A. F. & A. M.; a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and of Babcock Post, American Legion, at Albany. He gives his political support to the republican party and served one and a half terms as a member of the city council. He is a past president of the Chamber of Commerce and is regarded as one of Harrisburg's most active and progressive citizens. ******************* Submitted to the Oregon Bios.
