Meservey, of the firm of Thomas & Meservey, of Portland, holds a leading place in connection with the timber industry of the Pacific northwest as a logging engineer, in which capacity he has been able to render valuable service to the timber companies of this part of the country. He was born in Wausau, Marathon county, Wisconsin, on the 23d of September, 1874, and is a son of S. and Caroline Meservey. The father was for many years engaged in the lumber business. Mr. Meservey completed the course of the public schools and graduated from a business college in his native city, after which, at the age of twenty years, he went to Minnesota and entered the employ of the Day Brothers Lumber Company. Later he went to Louisiana and during the following eight years was identified with various lumber interests in that state, Florida and Texas. In 1910 Mr. Meservey came to Portland as manager of the timber interests of J. H. Queel & Company, with which concern he remained until 1913, when he engaged in business on his own account, under the name of the Lumbermen's Engineering Company. Later the business was reorganized as a partnership, under the name of Thomas & Meservey, and as timber cruisers, logging engineers and logging railway contractors, they have done a large business in a territory ranging from California to Canada and from Idaho to the coast. They employ several men, many of whom are expert engineers, and hove gained a wide reputation for thoroughness and reliability in meeting their contracts. On October 1, 1905, Mr. Meservey was united in marriage to Miss Ora L. Garrison, of Eagle River, Wisconsin, and to them have been born five children; Marion, who is a student in the University of Washington; Laura, James, Jean and Richard. The republican party receives Mr. Meservey's political support and he has shown a proper interest in public affairs. He is a member of Willamette Lodge, No. 2, A. F. & A. M.; Portland Consistory, A. A. S. R.; Al Kader Temple, A. A. 0. N. M. S., and the Multnomah Athletic Club. A man of marked business ability and sound judgment in practical matters and loyal to his community in every respect, he has won a high place in the esteem of those -whom he has met in business or social relations and is regarded as one of Portland's successful and substantial citizens. ******************* Submitted to the Oregon Bios.
