Clark, Robert Carlton, Ph.D. "History of the Willamette Valley Oregon." Vol. 3. Chicago: Chapman Publishing Company, 1927. p. 176. MAHLON E. SWEET Mahlon E. Sweet has given marked evidence of his ability as an automobile dealer in the fact that he is the only man who has ever handled the Studebaker cars at Eugene, and is still engaged in that business, enjoying a substantial patronage, due to his energetic and enterprising methods and his sound business policy. Mr. Sweet was born in Cook county, Illinois, on the 28th of January, 1886, and is a son of Richard W. and Mary Josephine Sweet, who moved to California in 1894 and in that state passed away. Mahlon E. Sweet secured his early education in the public schools and attended the University of Oregon for three years. In 1901 he became connected with the automobile business, in which he has engaged continuously since. In 1913 he came to Eugene and entered into a partnership with R. D. Drain, under the firm name of the Sweet-Drain Auto Company, and bought the business of the Mozach Auto Company, which had been established in 1909 by Fred Moullen and Roy Zacharias. The company has since had the local agency for the Studebaker cars, in the sale of which they have been very successful. Mr. Drain died in 1925, Mr. Sweet taking over his interest in the business. The agency has always been located at Nos. 1030 to 1042 Oak street, where, in 1926, Mr. Sweet erected the present fine building, which is eighty by eighty feet, with an L eighty by forty feet in dimensions. In addition to the fine display room and offices, he has a complete repair department and carries a full line of parts and supplies. In 1912 Mr. Sweet was united in marriage to Miss Nina B. Nicklin, of Eugene. He is a member of the Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club and gives his political support to the republican party. He has always given his support and cooperation toward advancing local measures for the public good and is regarded as one of the best citizens of his locality. ******************* Submitted to the Oregon Bios.
