MILTON HALE

     Born in Mercer County, Kentucky, September 6, 1821.  Was the first settler
in Linn County, on the Santiam River, and built the first ferry on that stream
-- said ferry being now owned by Ashby Pierce.  He is now a farmer by
occupation, and lives near Albany.  Married Miss Susanna Brown in 1843, by whom
he has had eleven children, only four of whom are alive.
