Mr. McKey is a native of Marion county, Oregon, born on the 6th day of June, 1896, and is a son of Charles N. and Kate B. (Ringo) McKey. His father, who is a native of Kansas, now resides in Portland, and his mother, who is a native of Marion county, is a daughter of Hamilton H. Ringo, whose family were numbered among the early pioneers of Marion county. After completing his elementary education in the public schools of Albany, Miles H. McKey entered Albany College, which he attended for two years. He then entered the law department of the University of Oregon, where he was graduated in 1920, being one of the first two students to receive from that institution the degree of Doctor of Jurisprudence. He located at Albany, where he practiced his profession for a time, and then went to Portland, where he gave his attention to his private practice until appointed assistant attorney-general, in which position he is now serving at Salem. Well educated and a man of keen judgment and sound erudition, he is gaining marked prestige as an able and capable lawyer and is handling the matters that come before him in a manner that has won high praise. In 1924 Mr. McKey was united in marriage to Miss Alice Cordero, of San Francisco, California. A daughter, Mercedes, was born May 4, 1927. He is a member of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks, the Knights of the Maccabees, the American Legion and the Delta Theta Phi law fraternity. His was the distinction of being the only under-graduate student of the University of Oregon to be commissioned a captain during the war and he was one of the youngest captains in the United States Army. In August, 1922, he was commissioned major in the Coast Artillery Reserve Corps and was assigned to command the 3rd Battalion of the 604th Coast Artillery (Railway). He is a member of the Officers' Reserve Association. He has given intensive study to military matters, in which he is regarded as an expert. Personally Mr. McKey possesses to a marked degree those qualities which commend a man to the good favor of his fellowmen and is deservedly popular throughout the range of his acquaintance. ******************* Submitted to the Oregon Bios.
