Clark, Robert Carlton, Ph.D. "History of the Willamette Valley Oregon." Vol. 3. Chicago: Chapman Publishing Company, 1927. p. 157. MARION LEBOW The life history of Marion Lebow, one of the well known and highly esteemed farmers in the vicinity of Creswell, Lane county, shows what may be accomplished by persistent industry along well directed lines, while in the realm of private citizenship his record has been such as to gain for him the sincere respect of his fellowmen. A native of Lane county, born on the 21st of July, 1865, he is a son of Thompson S. and Hannah J. (Shields) Lebow. His father came across the plains, with ox teams, from Missouri in 1849, locating in California, where he lived for a short time. Later he went by boat to Portland, Oregon, and thence up the Willamette Valley to Cottage Grove, Lane county, where he took up three hundred and twenty acres of government land. Here he developed a good farm and spent his remaining years. Marion Lebow was reared on the home farm and secured a good, practical education in the district schools. For a number of years he operated his father's ranch and he is now the owner of three hundred and seven acres of well improved land, which he is still cultivating, with marked success. He carries on general farming, raising all the crops common to this locality, and also keeps twenty-seven head of sheep, five cows and two horses. His farm has been well cared for the improvements being substantial and up-to-date in character, and in all his operations he has shown sound judgment and keen discrimination. In 1891 Mr. Lebow was united in marriage to Miss Eliza J. England, a daughter of David England, who also was a pioneer of Lane county, having come across the plains in an early day. Mr. and Mrs. Lebow have three children.: Ernest W., who was born in Lane county in 1892, graduated from the Cottage Grove high school and then entered the Northern Pacific Dental College, at Portland, from which he was graduated, and is now practicing his profession at Cottage Grove; Clara E., born in 1894, is a graduate of the Cottage Grove high school; and Nora J., born in 1899, is a graduate of the Walker high school and also completed a course at the Emanuel hospital at Portland. In his political alignment Mr. Lebow is a democrat and has always shown a commendable interest in matters relating to the welfare of his community, having served a number of terms as a school director and several years as road supervisor. He has done his full share in promoting the civic and moral standing of his locality and his open-hearted and unaffected manner has commended him to the good opinion of his fellowmen throughout his section of the county. ******************* Submitted to the Oregon Bios.
