HANSEE, A.M. dean of the Woman's College, and Professor of Ancient Languages in Willamette University, is a native of Sullivan county, New York. Her father, Jesse C. Hansee, now a resident of Ulster county, New York, is of English descent. Her mother is a member of the Gillette family, of Connecticut, who were among the early settlers of New England, and connected with Sir Francis Drake. Dean Hansee received her education in New York, and at the State University of Indiana. Through Dr. D. S. Jordan, now president of Stanford University, she was called to the University of Washington, located at Seattle, where she filled the chair of Ancient Languages. She remained there three years.
