MARCELLUS M. GILLESPIE
     Is a son of Jacob Gillespie, and was born in La Fayette county, Missouri,
January 26, 1846.  He crossed the plains with his parents in 1852, and settled
in this county on the sixth of October of that year.  He settled on his present
farm in the fall of 1866, which is located north from Eugene City four miles.
He married Salina Goodpasture, November 2, 1865.  She died November 4, 1869.
Mr. Gillespie married for his second wife Damaris T. Benson January 21, 1874.
He has two children by first marriage and four by second.
