Clark, Robert Carlton, Ph.D. "History of the Willamette Valley Oregon." Vol. 3. Chicago: Chapman Publishing Company, 1927. p. 10. NATHAN HILL For over forty years Nathan Hill has been numbered among the active and progressive farmers of the Willamette Valley, and as the legitimate result of his persistent industry and sound judgment in the management of his affairs he is now in independent circumstances and able to enjoy well earned leisure in his comfortable home in Eugene. A native of Virginia, he was born on the 21st of March, 1861, and in the public schools of his home neighborhood received his educational training. He remained on his father's farm until he attained his majority, and then bought a small farm in that state, to which he gave his attention until 1884, when he came to Eugene, Oregon, and rented a tract of land, which he operated for about three years. In 1887 he bought one hundred and twenty-seven acres near Mohawk, which he farmed for fifteen years and then sold. He later bought and sold several farms, and is now the owner of a fine farm of four hundred and forty acres near Eugene. The place is up-to-date in the matter of improvements, having a fine set of farm buildings, and the land has been cultivated in such a manner as to maintain its productivity. In 1913 Mr. Hill bought a nice home in Eugene, where he is now living. In 1891 Mr. Hill was united in marriage to Miss Linda Ham, who also is a native of Virginia, and whose family came to Eugene in 1884 in the same party that included Mr. Hill. To Mr. and Mrs. Hill have been born five children, as follows : Howard, who is married and is engaged in business in Portland; Edna, who is married and is living in Washington, D. C.; Merle, who is successfully engaged in farming in the Willamette Valley; and Delbert and John, both of whom are living in Eugene. Mr. Hill is a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He is well known throughout this section of the valley as a man of sterling character, industrious habits and marked business ability and holds an enviable place in public esteem. ******************* Submitted to the Oregon Bios.
