Here he resided until his father brought him across the plains to Oregon in 1864, the family settling in Grand Round valley, where the subject of our sketch lived until 1865, when he came to Lane county settling on the north side of the McKenzie river in Willamette precinct, where he lived one year. He next moved to Springfield precinct and engaged in various occupations until locating on a farm bordering the Willamette river. In 1872 he moved to his present ranch, which joins the one just described. Married Mary Elizabeth Benson, March 22, 1879.
