He crossed the plains to Oregon with his step-father, John Smith, in 1849, settling in Marion county. In the spring of 1850 they went to Santiam, thence to Linn county, living near Brownsville. Came to Lane county in the fall of 1850, living near Springfield. Mr. Robinson went to Marion county in the fall of 1857, and in 1861 he enlisted in company "B," Oregon Cavalry, going to Vancouver and serving in Washington Territory for three years. He resided in various places after his discharge from the service, until settling in Eugene City in 1871, where he has since lived. Married Cornelia Killingsworth.
