"Portrait & Biographical Record of the Willamette Valley Oregon." Chapman Publishing Company, 1903. p. 666. SYLVANDER AUGUSTUS DAWSON Had a year of school in Danville, IL. Came across the Oregon Trail in 1861 driving one of his father's ox teams. The Party arrived in Albany six months to the day from the time they left Danville, IL. Sylvander remained at home for two years, then spent two years packing and mining in Idaho and Montana. Returning to Albany, he bought a farm near the old home and engaged in farming and stock-raising, and after the death of his father in 1873 came into possession of the old place of one hundred and sixty acres. From then until taking up his residence in Albany in 1897 he farmed successfully, adding many improvements to the homestead, and so operating the property as to bring him in a comfortable profit. ******************* Submitted to the Oregon Bios.
