SAMUEL ADOLPH Samuel Adolph, a tobacconist, is accorded a place of prominence in business circles of Salem, his native city, and represents one of its pioneer families. He was born October 1, 1880, and is a son of Samuel and Maty Adolph, who came to Salem about 1862. His father operated the first brewery in the city, establishing the business in the '60s, and the output of his plant was of high grade. Success attended his well directed labors and his capital was invested in city realty. He erected a number of business blocks in Salem and furthered its progress to the extent of his ability. He had a well merited reputation for business sagacity and probity and his advice and opinion were frequently sought by his fellow citizens who entertained for him the highest regard. Mr. Adolph was a Mason and exemplified in his life the beneficent teachings of the order. His son, Samuel Adolph, Jr., attended the public schools of Salem and continued his studies in Willamette University. He was employed as a clerk in various stores, gaining valuable experience along commercial lines, and in 1900 began his independent career. He took over the business of John Hertz, a dry goods merchant, and afterward purchased stores in various parts of Oregon, selling them after disposing of the stock. He was thus engaged until 1914, when he became a dealer in cigars, and is now associated with his brother Joseph. They enjoy a large patronage and their store at No. 130 North Commercial street is operated under the style of Adolph Brothers. The partners are thoroughly informed on matters pertaining to the tobacco trade and Samuel Adolph is also identified with agricultural pursuits, being financially interested in a fine hop ranch of one hundred and sixty acres in Polk county, Oregon. In 1901 Mr. Adolph married Miss Lottie Smith, of Salem, and they have become the parents of a son, David, who was graduated from the University of Oregon and is now connected with the First National Bank of Salem. Mr. Adolph is identified with the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks and in Masonry has taken the thirty-second degree. He belongs to the Rod & Gun Club and is an adherent of the republican party. He loyally champions every movement for the growth and betterment of Salem and has a wide circle of sincere friends in the city, for time. has proven his worth. ******************* Submitted to the Oregon Bios.
