HON. S. B. EAKIN
     Born in Elgin, Kane county, Illinois, August 28, 1846.  When about nine
years old his parents took him to Bloom, Cook county, in that State.  Crossed
the plains with his parents in 1866, and settled in Eugene City.  He was elected
sheriff of Lane county in 1874, holding the office three terms, and elected to
the legislature in 1882.  He is now engaged in the banking business with T. G.
Hendricks.  He married Eliza J. Hadley.
