"Illustrated history of Lane County, Oregon." Portland, Or.: A.G. Walling, 1884. On June 15, 1866, there died at the residence of his son, Thomas BELSHAW, in the eighty-seventh year of his age, George BELSHAW. He was born in the shire of Nottingham, England: in 1834 he came to the United States with his family and settled in the western part of the State of Indiana. In 1853, he removed to Oregon, took up his abode in Lane county and within its confines resided until his death. 'Thus within a few months' says the 'Journal', 'have five aged citizens of Eugene City been laid in the grave. The united ages of these being more that four hundred years and the average age over eighty years.' Submitted by: Sandy, scarletgen@comcast.net
