     Born in Surrey, England, September 8, 1829; came to Oregon in April, 1853.
He is a merchant by occupation and resides at Oregon City. Has been mayor of the
city. Wife's previous name was Sophia Diller. Children: Frederick R., Nellie V.,
Mary J., and Annie L., and one named Arthur D. who is now dead.
