Served in the Cayuse war, and became second lieutenant of a company. Took up a farm on Howell Prairie, Marion County, about 1851, where he still lives. Was elected county commissioner in 1864, holding that office four years. Was county assessor from 1870 until 1874, in the latter year being elected sheriff. Became county judge in 1880.
