Clark, Robert Carlton, Ph.D. "History of the Willamette Valley Oregon." Vol. 2. Chicago: Chapman Publishing Company, 1927. p. 256. WILLIE EARL BAILEY Resolute, energetic and self-reliant, Willie Earl Bailey has steadily progressed and is now the owner of a productive ranch near Salem. He was born in 1891 at Pierce City, Missouri, and is a son of Mr. and Mrs. O. L. Bailey, who came to Marion county, Oregon, in 1905 and now reside in Brooks, this state. W. E. Bailey had few opportunities to attend school and in 1907, when a youth of sixteen, arrived in Marion county. He drove a team in Salem and in 1919 purchased eight acres of land five miles north of Salem. He raises the crops best adapted to this region and has three acres in berries. His standards of farming are high and his labors have been attended with good results. In 1910 Mr. Bailey married Miss Essie Rickman, a daughter of T. L. Rickman, one of the early settlers of Marion county, and they now have three children: Joseph, Eula, and Reta. Mr. Bailey is identified with the Woodmen of the World and casts his ballot for the candidates of the democratic party. His life has been one of unceasing toil and he deserves much credit for what he has accomplished. ******************* Submitted to the Oregon Bios. Project in December 2016 by Diana Smith.
