Though he has but recently entered the professional ranks of Portland, Dr. Winfred H. Bueermann has already gained definite recognition as an able and conscientious physician and is rapidly building up a large and remunerative practice. The Doctor was born in Detroit, Michigan, in 1895, a son of the Rev. Frederick and Emma (Trumpp) Bueermann. The father was born in the province of Hanover, Germany, and came to the United States at the age of fourteen years. He received a good education and entered the ministry of the German Baptist church, in which service he has been eminently successful, particularly as a builder of churches. For several years he was pastor of the German Baptist church in Portland, Oregon. He was married in Brooklyn, New York, and to him and his wife were born five children, two sons and three daughters, of whom one daughter is deceased, the survivors being Winfred H., Raymond, Emma Lillian and Margarete. Dr. Bueermann received his early education in the public schools, attending the Jefferson high school and McMinnville College at McMinnville, Oregon, where he received the degree of Bachelor of Science, after which he had two years of medical instruction in the University of Oregon. He then matriculated in the medical school of Columbia University, from which he was graduated with the degree of Doctor of Medicine in 1921, and later he served sixteen months as interne in Christ Hospital, in Jersey City, New Jersey. He attended the Mayo Clinic and Mayo Foundation for Scientific Research as a fellow in surgery from 1922 to 1927 and received the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in surgery, which was granted by the University of Minnesota in June, 1927. On May 1, 1927, he entered upon the practice of his profession in Portland, where he specializes in goitre and general surgery, in which lines he is acquiring a wide reputation. He is attending surgeon at the Doernbecker Hospital and a member of the teaching staff of the medical school of the University of Oregon. Dr. Bueermann was united in marriage to Miss Gladys Mabel Champion, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, whose father was a minister of the Gospel. The Doctor is a member of the Minnesota State Medical Society, a fellow of the American Medical Association, is a member of the junior candidate group of the American College of Surgeons, and belongs to the American Legion and the City Club, He is closely devoted to his life work, in which he is winning marked success, and his courteous and kindly manner has won for him the esteem of all who know him. ******************* Submitted to the Oregon Bios.
