Clark, Robert Carlton, Ph.D. "History of the Willamette Valley Oregon." Vol. 3. Chicago: Chapman Publishing Company, 1927. p. 304. WILLIAM L. GASKILL Among the men who are promoting Salem's growth and development is numbered William L. Gaskill, a well known realtor, who has made his home in the Capital city for a period of thirteen years. He was born September 28, 1882, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and is a son of William W. and Ida M. (Pearson) Gaskill, who journeyed to the state of Washington in 1889. They spent three years in Tacoma and in 1892 settled in Portland, Oregon. For many years William W. Gaskill was one of the prominent attorneys of the Rose city and now lives retired in Beaverton, Oregon, but his wife is deceased. William L. Gaskill attended the public schools of Tacoma and Portland and his higher education was acquired in the University of Michigan, from which he was graduated in 1906 with the degree of Bachelor of Arts. He afterward studied law and was admitted to the bar but never practiced. He made a tour of the world and in 1898 went to Alaska. Having tried many lines of activity, he focused his attention upon the real estate business and various cities benefited by his operations. In 1914 he allied his interests with those of Salem and in 1924 opened a real estate office. Since 1926 he has been senior member of the firm of Gaskill & Earle, which handles real estate and loans, also writing insurance, and wisely and successfully directs its affairs. Close study and practical experience have made him familiar with the details of the business and this knowledge is supplemented by mature judgment and administrative power. His investments have been advantageously placed and among his holdings are several farm properties in Oregon. In 1911 Mr. Gaskill married Miss Maude Eaton, of Enterprise, Oregon, and to their union has been born a daughter, Laura. Mr. Gaskill is one of the enterprising members of the Chamber of Commerce and the Salem Realty Board, while in politics he is a republican. Having traveled extensively, he is thoroughly convinced of Salem's desirability as a place of residence and through earnest, systematic work is contributing his share toward the city's upbuilding and improvement, at the same time winning individual prosperity. ******************* Submitted to the Oregon Bios.
