Oregon, the name of Walter S. Ormandy is well known in mercantile, circles, for he is part owner of the leading house furnishings and furniture store in each place and is known as a capable, progressive and reliable business man. Mr. Ormandy was born in Pawnee county, Kansas, in 1887, and is a son of W. L. and Mary A. (Huston) Ormandy. In 1889 the family came to Oregon, locating near Portland, where, the fatherâs death occurred two years later. The mother passed away in 1919. Waiter S. Ormandy attended the public schools, graduating from high school, after which he entered the First National Bank of Portland, with which he was connected for twelve years. In 1910 he and his two brothers, Harry W. and James A., bought out a furniture business in St. Johns. Harry W. was in active charge of this business until 1917, when Walter S. joined him. In 1913 they also bought out Calef Brothers, through which they gained a store space of fifty by one hundred feet, and in 1928 they broadened their field of operations by buying out E. A. Ross, at St. Helens, where also they carry on a house furnishings and furniture business. They carry large and complete stocks, have attractive and well arranged stores, and render prompt, courteous and efficient service to their patrons, so that they have gained a large and representative patronage in both places. In 1913 Mr. Ormandy was united in marriage to Miss Lola Irvin, of Newport, Oregon, daughter of S. G. Irvin, a pioneer of this state. They are the parents of two children, Mary Frances and Irvin Scott. Mr. Ormandy is a member of Doric Lodge, No. 132, A. F. & A. M., of which he is a past master; and Peninsula Chapter, No. 43, R. A. M. He is a Kiwanian, while in his political views he is a stanch republican. Candid and straightforward, progressive and enterprising, he has steadily advanced and now occupies an enviable position in commercial circles. Submitted to the OR.
