"An Illustrated History of Whitman County, state of Washington." San Francisco: W. H. Lever, 1901. p. 391. A. A. MILLER The gentleman to the outlining of whose life history we are now about to address ourselves, though at present the efficient postmaster of Pullman, was formerly identified prominently with the business interests of that city and of the county in which it is located, and he has earned for himself the right to representation in our volume as among the commercial leaders of the Palouse country. Mr. Miller was born in Quincy, Illinois, in 1862, and continued to reside in that city until twenty-two years old. He acquired his education in the public schools and in Gem City Business College, then engaged in the clothing business. After spending four years at that he, in 1884, removed to Pullman, coming with one of his schoolmates, in company with whom he opened a general dry goods and clothing store. This they operated together until 1890, bringing into the conduct of their business skill and good management, but in that year they met with an unfortunate accident, losing all their goods by fire. Mr. Miller then bought into the Pullman Mercantile Company and did business in connection with that firm until 1894, when they sold out. Thereafter, until 1897, he traveled over this county as salesman for a clothing house, but, being then appointed postmaster of Pullman, he resigned his position to assume the duties of that office, and he has remained in the postal service ever since. In fraternal affiliations Mr. Miller is identified with the A, F. & A. M., the W. of W. and the A. 0. U. W. He was married in Pullman in 1889 to I. Pearl Mason, a native of Missouri and a member of a respected pioneer family of this county. They have three children: Vera Caral Bee, Vern Mason and Virginia Pearl. ******************* Submitted to the Washington Biographies Project in June 2009 by Diana Smith.
