DONALD WEIR a pioneer of 1887, was born in Caithness, Scotland, in 1864. He grew to manhood in his native land, but moved to Canada as soon as he reached adult age and located at Nairn, Ontario, where he maintained a blacksmith shop for three years. He then went back to Scotland on a visit and after his return to this side of the ocean lived in Boston for six months. Subsequently he came to Spokane county and pre-empted one hundred and sixty acres of land four miles east of Deer Park. He ran a blacksmith shop in Deer Park for three years and in 1898 opened a general merchandise store there. He also has a general store at Milan. Mr. Weir is one of the most highly esteemed and best respected citizens of Deer Park. He takes a lively interest in all public affairs of the town and is now serving as a member of the school board of trustees. Socially he is affiliated prominently with the K. O. T.
