Ernest Bornander Born in Borgunda, Vastergotland, Sweden, July 17, 1878. He started to learn the florist trade in Skara Botanical Garden. After serving a three yearsí apprenticeship there, he went to Stockholm, where he got a position in the green houses and gardens of Drottningholm Palace. He also did landscape gardening and was for some time foreman of such work. While there employed he frequently saw King Oscar II, when he took walks in the royal gardens. As Mr. Bornander desired to see America and study its gardening methods, he emigrated in February, 1903, coming to Tacoma. Almost immediately after his arrival here he bought a ten acre tract of umimproved land at Fife station, a few miles from the city. He paid $200 an acre for this land. With the intention of going into the florist business he began to clear the land, putting the same in high state of cultivation. Later he erected greenhouses and entered the florist business, in which he was successful from the start. For the past few years Mr. Bornanader has been experimenting with sweet peas, picking and shipping as mane as four thousand every day. Besides the large and up-to-date greenhouses, the place is improved with a large and commodious living house with all modern improvements, and other fine buildings. The new Seattle-Tacoma highway passes the place. Mr. Bornander was married in Tacoma Dec. 11,1912, to Margareta Danielson Erkes, born in Leksand, Dalarne, Sweden, Oct. 31, 1877. She came to America in 1903 and lives in Providence, R.I., for eight years, coming to Tacoma in 191. hey have three children, two sonís and a daughter. The family belongs to the Swedish Lutheran church, and Mr. Bornander is also a member of he Valhalla lodge, the Swedish Cultural Society and other organizations.
