Hull, Lindley M., compiler and editor. "A History of Central Washington, Including the Famous Wenatchee, Entiat, Chelan and the Columbia Valleys." Spokane: Press of Shaw & Borden Co., 1929. p. 180. ELLSWORTH D. SCHEBLE who to friends and acquaintances is known as "Al," emigrated from Wisconsin to Ellensburg, Washington, early in 1889, where he remained one year employed by the Northern Pacific Railway Company. From this point he went to the Puget Sound country, and for about two years followed construction work on the Tacoma, Olympia and Grays Harbor Railroad. In 1892, or about the time of the change of townsite location, he came to Wenatchee, and was for several years associated with his brother, F. M. Scheble, in the hardware business. From 1899 to 1902, he was in charge of the Wenatchee postoffice as deputy postmaster. In 1902 the Wenatchee office was advanced to the presidential class, and he was appointed postmaster for a term of four years by President Roosevelt. In December, 1903, he was married to Miss Zura B. Morse. Two children have been born to this marriage: Joy and Donald. As mentioned elsewhere, Mr. Scheble with four others are the only ones of the city's population of 10,000, who have lived continuously within the city limits from 1892 to the present time. ******************* Submitted to the Washington Biographies Project in December 2010 by Diana Smith.
