"Seattle and Environs, 1852-1924." Vol. 3. Hon. C. H. Hanford, Editor. Pioneer Historical Pub. Co., 1924. p. 334. FREDERIC ADDISON WOOD From the age of two years Frederic Addison Wood has been a resident of Seattle and from the storehouse of memory he draws many interesting reminiscences of the early days, when the city was in the pioneer stage of its development. He has contributed his quota toward the work of upbuilding and progress and for me past twenty-seven years has been identified with the plumbing supply business, in which he has won well-merited success, being an executive officer of one of the largest firms of this character in Seattle. Mr. Wood was born in New York city, July 25, 1878, and in 1880 accompanied his parents, Henry Cornelius and Theresa Wood, on their journey to the Pacific coast. They traveled by boat the entire distance, crossing: the Isthmus of Panama by rail, and there boarded a ship bound for San Francisco and Seattle. On reaching this city they located on Mill street, now known as Yesler Way, their home being not more than two blocks from the totem pole. The grammar schools of Seattle afforded Frederic A. Wood his educational opportunities and after finishing the work of the eighth grade he laid aside his textbooks to enter the commercial world. He secured employment with the A. Hambach Company, dealers in plumbers' supplies, and remained in the service of that firm for twenty years, during which period he gained a thorough knowledge of the business. On severing his connection with that house he embarked 'in an independent venture, becoming one of the organizers and stockholders of the Seattle Plumbing Supply Company, which was incorporated in April; 1915. Mr. Wood is vice president of the firm, which is now doing a large volume of business, and his keen insight, executive ability and earnest, systematic effort have been essential elements in the upbuilding of the enterprise. In this city, on the 21st of April, 1920, Mr. Wood was married to Miss Marian C. Corbit, a daughter of William H. Corbit of Tacoma, Washington. Mr. and Mrs. Wood have a son, Frederic A. Wood, Jr., born August 18, 1921. Mr. Wood belongs to the Seattle Yacht Club and the Inglewood Country Club and is also a member of Camp No. 69, W. 0. W., and Lodge No. 92; B. P. 0. E. He is a self-made man who has ever recognized the fact that each day and hour has its opportunity and that effort, intelligently put forth, must ultimately win its reward, and in the fullness of time he has reaped the reward of unabating industry, tenacity of purpose, and the courage and ability to meet and master situations. He is widely and favorably known in Seattle and manifests a deep interest in everything relating to the welfare of his city and state. Mr. Wood's residence is at No. 3226 Cascadia avenue. ******************* Submitted to the Washington Biographies Project in January 2011 by Diana Smith.
